You may have heard already that well known actor Michael Douglas has been diagnosed with stage four throat cancer. The news is definitely a shocker, but really makes most of us who are regular hard working Americans realize that even celebrities are only human and nowhere close to being invincible. Based on the many television interviews Douglas has had it appears that he blames his throat cancer on smoking and drinking alcohol. I know some may wonder how he got to stage 4 cancer without even knowing, but he actually did have some symptoms. He stated he suffered with a sore throat for a while and for a long time Doctors could not find anything and a finally one doctor did find something and the biopsy he had confirmed he had stage 4 cancer. Douglas, at the age of 65 will now under go 8 weeks of major Chemotherapy and Radiation treatment. The Doctors have given him and his family a very positive prognosis by giving him a 80% chance of survival. Though he has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer there is an upside to the devastating news and that is…..the cancer remains solely in his throat and has not spread elsewhere.
Douglas, is married to the beautiful actress Catherin Zeta-Jones and they have two children together. Catherine and her 2 children are standing by her husbands side . Douglas recently appeared on the David Letterman show and while he was there he was in very high spirits as he spent most of the time laughing and joking with David Letterman. You would not think that a man who had just completed his first week of chemotherapy and radiation treatment would be so positive. I believe that with the spirit and positive attitude that Douglas has he will over come this battle.
